My take on eyelash enhancement treatments

Hello everybody!

Eyes are our windows to the outside world and they provide others with glimpses into our inner thoughts and feelings. I am lucky enough that I was born with long lashes, but just like most of the girls, taking a special care of the beauty of my eyelashes and trying to add to their allure is my number one beauty interest.

Having said this, it is not a secret that I tried most of the eyelash growth, volumizing, and curling treatments out there, from semi-permanent eyelash extension, LVL treatment, to using eyelash growth serum.

In this post I will compare between both treatments and share with you my thoughts about them and my take on each one of them.

  1. LVL eyelash treatment:

LVL stands for length, volume, and lifting. The idea of LVL eyelash treatment is simple, a therapist uses a setting serum to straighten your natural lashes at the root (making them look curled up), and then your lashes are tinted, creating the appearance of mascara.

Treatment duration Pain Price Post treatment care My take on it
45 min to 60 min None From AED 250 – AED 400 Avoid water touching your eyelashes for the next 24 hours. –          Looks supernatural, as if you haven’t done anything to your eyelashes.

–          Treatment providers tell you the results can last for 6 weeks. In my case they only lasted for 10 days or less.

–          No risk of your own eyelashes falling down because of this treatment.

–          Normal mascara usually gives me more visible results in terms of eyelash curl and colour.

  1. Semi-permanent eyelash extension:

My favourite eyelash extension hack since 2011! There is more than one type of lash extensions, including: synthetic, silk, and mink. Size availability ranges from 6mm to 20mm. Once selected, the lashes are applied one at a time using special glue that is formulated in a way that will not irritate the eye.

Treatment duration Pain Price Post treatment care My take on it
Up to 2 hours None From AED 250 – AED 600 Avoid water touching your eyelashes for the next 24 hours. –          It is called fake lashes, so you don’t expect your eyelashes to look natural! Everyone will know you have done something ‘beautiful’ to your eyelashes.

–          Lasts for 2 – 4 weeks, if you take good care of them. You can do refills, up to 2 to 3 times, so one set can last up to 3 months with refill sessions.

–          Saves time and effort wasted in trying to wear temporary eyelashes and perfecting them.

–          The risk of your own eyelashes falling down is high. However, you will get them back in 4 weeks.

–          You don’t take them off on your own, this procedure should be done at the beauty center using special product.

–          When you take them off, it will take you couple of days to get used to your looks without the eyelash extension.

  1. Eyelash enhancing serums:

These are the healthiest eyelash treatment you can give for your eyelashes hands down. They guarantee lengthier lashes that are the real deal. These products are packed with conditioning peptides and fatty acids to stimulate and promote growth. The best part: they’re pretty simple to apply, too.

Treatment duration Pain Price Post treatment care My take on it
Should be applied on eyelashes once a day. Results can be seen after 4 to 4 weeks. None Approx. AED 300. Can be bought from most of beauty centres. –          Must be applied on clean eyelashes (after cleaning your eyes from makeup or before wearing makeup.

–          Avoid going out in the sun while wearing the serum.

–          Apply on the serum every night on clean eyelashes.

–          Apply it every day and you will see the results in 3 to 4 weeks.

–          The result is fuller, curlier, and longer lashes.

–          In my opinion this is the best solution to get your eyelashes back to norm after wearing semi-permanent eyelashes sets for so long.

–          I have sensitive eyes, but the serum I’m using did not cause any side effect. However, I would recommend that you consult a doctor before using it.

My Visit to Bangkok – Part 1

Hi Everyone!

Happy New Year to You All!

I miss you’ll and hope that you’re ready for a new adventure with Wafa’s Diary!

Today I am so excited to share with you a review about one the best experience I had in 2016 and through my blogging career as a whole, my trip to the ‘Land of Smiles’, Thailand, and most specifically, to the ‘City of Angles’, ‘Bangkok’.

There are many reasons for why I consider this trip as a very special one; first, it is because I was selected as a brand influencer for the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok. Being selected by these two prestigious organisations is an honour and a milestone in my career as a blogger. Secondly, I got to meet many lovely people and friends who I cherish and feel privileged to know. Thirdly, it is not a surprise that Thailand is one the most welcoming countries and is the land of many exotic Asian cultures.

The first thing I noticed upon arriving to Bangkok was the very friendly attitude that Thai people welcome their guests with. This was felt through the easy procedures at the airport, the very warm welcome at the hotel and the smiley faces around the city.

A special hotel in a special area:

My trip lasted for five days. I was very lucky to stay in the vibrant area of Suckumvit where you find yourself surrounded by everything you need as a tourist, including restaurants, cafes, shopping malls, the metro station and beautiful scenery. I arrived at a late hour at night and was wondering if I will find an outlet that sells halal food as it is a must in my diet. Luckily the hotel I stayed in is well prepared for international tourists including the ones coming from the Middle East, who insist on having halal food. One of the main things I noticed is the variety of Thai and international restaurants that are available at the hotel and that all of them have halal food options.

If you happen to stay at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel, make sure you don’t miss trying these restaurants; Basil for a superb luxurious Thai experience and The Sala Restaurant for an authentic Asian experience with a spectacular view on the pool. If you rather have international food then you should try Orchid Café for a five star international buffet, Rossini’s for the finest Italian taste, The Living Room for light meals and a vibrant jazzy experience, and Dine in the Dark for a one of its kind dining experience in pitch dark that reflects a unique concept that I’ll talk about later in this post.

Dining and food is not the only specialty of this five luxury hotel, but everything in this hotel is very special from the great facilities, great ambience, and one of the most attentive responsive and friendly staff one would ever encounter.

The hotel is located in close proximity to Bangkok’s major tourist and shopping destinations and it is facing the fascinating city views as well as the calming panorama view of Lake Ratchada.

The hotel facility has various accommodation options including standard and luxurious rooms and suits, as well as royal suits and amenities for a VIP experience making the hotel a perfect choice for all kind of travelers who are looking for a 360° experience.

More to follow about my trip to Bangkok in the next post. Stay Tuned!

Recent Additions to My Skincare Routine

Like many of beauty lovers, I’m constantly trying out new lotions and potions in the quest for moisturised skin and as I’m slowly climbing the age stairs of 30s, I’ve started looking for skin care to tackle the fine lines.

I’ve been known in my time to hover over a steaming hot bowl of water, with a dollop of herbal oil in and a towel over my head, to rid my face of any impurities and to moisturise. While I still swear by this, it’s not the easiest of options, particularly if you have a very busy schedule. My long suffering family are used to the bizarre sight of seeing my head in a bowl by now, but there’s no arguing that skin care products are easier solution.

Today, I want to share with you some skin care products that I’ve added to my daily beauty routine few months ago and now I cannot live without them:

TheFaceShop Blanclouding Moisture Cream

The main thing I noticed about this product was that it doesn’t feel sticky – a problem I’ve had with other moisturisers. It’s light on the skin, so not a problem if you like to apply your make up straight after. It’s one of my big bears when your makeup sticks to your moisturiser! It doesn’t contain SPF, which means it’s a good idea to apply sunscreen if you’re exposed to the sun, although it also means you can wear it as a day cream or night cream. It’s reasonably priced and one I’ll be buying again!

TheFaceShop Pore Minimizer Controlling Toner with Powder for All Skin Types

I’m not usually one for pore minimizers but was attracted to the packaging of this product. It’s targeted as a toner for those who have combination to oily skin, helping to keep your skin dry if you suffer from oily skin.

You can see all the powder in the bottle, so you have to shake it well before applying it. It has a great smell too, which is something I always look for in skincare. Again, it’s reasonable prices, so if you’re looking for a product to minimise pores, it’s well worth a try.

The Face Shop Rice Water Cleansing Foam

A good cleansing foam is a must have in any makeup bag. For me, it’s one of the key pieces in skincare. How can you expect to have clear skin if you don’t rid it of the day’s muck? It also gives you a sparkling clean surface to work from before applying your makeup for the day.

The Rice Water Cleansing Foam is a snip of the price of others I’ve tried, which can only be a positive and makes my skin feel immaculate. Lather it onto your skin twice a day and won’t need any other form of cleanser. This is a must buy.

Finally, I’m not a skincare expert, but I know that the ingredients in these products plump your skin and keep it from sagging, which should counter the ageing process. That’s me sold. I’m not at the stage where I want a frozen looking face and for now, I’ll stick to my little pot from the fountain of youth.

Sumptuous Scervino

When it comes to choosing the perfect outfit for a special evening out, I’ve always been a fan of feminine pieces. I’m talking about sophisticated as opposed to over-the-top ruffles. To be honest, I’m a bit of a fusspot when it comes to pulling my outfits together and am guaranteed to spend a good month on the hunt before I narrow in on my prey. I discovered Ermanno Scervino’s Spring Summer 2016 collection when I was on the hunt for a wedding outfit. Granted, the wedding isn’t until April, but I gave myself plenty of time because it’s a close friend’s special day.

The whole collection is right up my street. It’s feminine, with its gorgeously soft fabrics, effects of lace and sharp cuts. If there’s a piece every woman should have in her wardrobe, it’s a timeless gown that does all the talking, without the need to accessorise. Over the years, I’ve found it’s a go-to item that you can revisit and pull out of the wardrobe when you need to impress.

Ermanno Scervino ticks all of my boxes. The dusky pink and white lace gowns in their new collection are elegant and ooze femininity. They look expensive, which may sound like a silly statement but in my experience, you can pay a lot of money for items and not be able to decipher their worth. These dresses look and feel high quality – think investment pieces. As they look very feminine, you can wear them in many different ways depending on the season and occasion. In the summer or at a wedding (which is where I’ll be donning my gown), you can wear an elegant strap heel. You don’t need to accessorise more than that. The dresses make enough of a statement! To add some edge in the winter months or for less formal occasions, you can add a strong ankle boot. As I said, they’re timeless so you can update the accompanying shoe and keep the dress as the staple.

Of course, while I was looking for my gown, my eyes were averted to the other pieces in the Ermanno Scervino collection. Like a kid in a candy shop. I’ve fallen in love with the tuxedo dust coats. They’re not for everyone, but I like sharp pieces in my wardrobe. I tend to wear them to death, until I realise I may have over worn it and will then tuck it into the back of my wardrobe, before resurrecting again a year down the line. It’s an item I’d recommend for those who like to stay ahead of the trend. You can wear it on top of your gown or pair with some simple trousers to make a statement.

All in all, for me, the great thing about the collection is that it’s effortless. Each piece can be worn alone, or you can layer and mix them up to create different looks. Stand out from the crowd!

Here are some photos from Ermanno Scervino’s SS16 collection, which is now available at the Dubai Mall.

Guess which one I will be wearing at my friend’s wedding? 😉

Things You Should Consider Doing Before Your Big 30

FullSizeRenderThere is no certain age for doing things you love. The perfect time to do things is when you want to do them, afford doing them and handle their consequences.
However, let us agree that as we grow up things change. We start having more responsibilities, our lives get more complicated and we have less time to do things we always wanted to accomplish.

For all those of you who have not turned 30 yet, here is a bucket list of things you may want to consider before your life gets too busy.

1. Travel more
Travel more and travel not like a tourist. Travel to exotic places and interact with strangers.

Traveling at a young age is desirable, because it teaches you a wide variety of things that you can use in your daily life, such as finding solutions to the most difficult situations, dealing with different mentalities and understanding others. Traveling makes you a street smart, which is a very important complement for being a school smart. Moreover, when you travel you acquire an exceptional wisdom that sometimes cannot be obtained from books.

2. Read more
Reading is your way to gain knowledge. At some point you may lose your job, position, health and even people, but you can never lose knowledge.

Also, a reader is a well-rounded person who is equipped with the best asset to face any life circumstances. So, read more when you are young, because the more you read the more information you have in your head and you never know when this information might come in handy.

3. Listen more, talk less
Listening does not only mean allowing others to complete their speech, but it also means that you are allowing yourself to understand the other person and get prepared to respond based on the situation. This will result in a deeper contribution to the conversation and will reflect a better image about you.

Listening helps you become a better thinker and a more balanced person, because you will train yourself to not to jump to conclusions without listening to the story from all dimensions. As a result people will appreciate you more and wait for what you are going to say.

4. Surround yourself with many people, but trust few
People. You cannot live without them, but you have to be careful with them. They are the best and the worst thing that happens to you. Some will help you become a better person and others will drag you down to their level. Some people will betray you and walk away from you when you need them the most.

Only few people will change your life to the better, so it is worth it to spend your life looking for them. When you find them, hold them close to you and do for them as they do for you.
To be able to find the precious few, surround yourself with many people, winnow out those who you don’t need in your life and allow a limited number of people in your close circle.

5. Your health is priceless, appreciate, nurture and protect it
When you are in your 20s your health is at its peak, so don’t take it for granted because it will not stay like that for the rest of your life. You have to appreciate your health and nurture it to maintain your strength and energy across your life span. This can be realized by:

a) A healthy and a balanced diet, to reduce disease risk, regulate your blood cholesterol levels and maintain a strong immune system.

b) Steady exercise to boost your brain power, save your brain from cognitive decline at an older age and sharpen your memory and ability to learning new things.

In addition to your body, you have to take care of your skin. When you are in your twenties your skin is in its ‘glory years’ and if you don’t take care of it now, then it will start losing its radiance at an early age. My advice to you is to consult an expert and start using anti-aging products now. Remember that when you get older, your skin starts losing collagen and elastic tissue and the best thing you can do to delay the appearance of the thin lines on your face is wearing sunscreen to protect your skin against early aging caused by the sun’s UV lines.

6. Learn to be patient
It is said that: “In order to live happy you have to plan in decades, work in years and live in days”. I agree with this saying to a great extent. In my opinion one should learn to be patient, because valuable things will not come to you quickly. Things that take time to be built and gained are the things that you will appreciate the most and will be careful not to lose.

Another good thing about not getting what you want immediately is that when you get used to living for a long time without the things you like, it will be easier for you to get along with life if you lose them again. If you know how life feels like without something, it won’t scare you to lose it, because we are only afraid of the unknown.

7. Embrace failure and rejection with grace
Failure is not the end of the world, but it is the key to success.
In fact, failure is a great opportunity to understand your weaknesses, strength points and learn from your own mistakes.

The more you fail, the harder you get on yourself and become more determined to succeed. Always remember that the most successful stories in life had a long hard struggle behind them and a person who has never failed has never lived.

Welcome On Board!

life

Hello friends,

Welcome on board to this new section in Wafa’s Diary 🙂

This is the first time I write a non-product profiling topic. In my one year or so of blogging experience, I have not shared any personal experiences or lessons that I learnt the hard way sometimes and the easy way at other times.

Usually I am a person who sets up high walls around herself and does not open up easily or tell others what she thinks or feels. Although I might seem the most talkative one in any group I am in, but if you listen carefully to what I say you will find out that it is either incomplete or does not answer any queries.

Generally, I am very comfortable in talking in one on one meetings, whether they are casual or formal. I find gatherings awkward. I feel shy to talk when surrounded by many people. Some people think I am arrogant or not sociable. In group meetings, I either become a listener or escape to socializing virtually through the social media applications on my mobile phone. If I find myself obliged to talk or practice actual socialization, I get along with it by releasing a lot of smiles or interjections.

However, this has been changing recently thanks to a friend of mine, who has helped my mind let go allowing me to express myself with ease. This has led me to open this new section in the blog, under the name (Life Lessons). This division is a significant progress for me. Of course, I am still uncomfortable expressing myself ‘too much’ in group meet-ups, but at least, now I can write to you sharing my own thoughts, and opinion.

Here’s a shout out to my friend and if you guys like what you read in this section please say ‘Thank you Yin’. 😀

Now, let’s move to the next topic in this part of the blog:

Casual wear for an outdoor gathering

Hi everyone!

As you can see, weather is getting better finally. Hence I decided to arrange an outdoor meet up with my friends, so we can enjoy some fresh air.

For this chilled back gathering I decided to wear a white linen top and straight cut blue jeans trousers.

I accessorized them with beige bag and sandals.

Wearing Jumpsuit for Office

For another season jumpsuits continue to rock as an essential fashion piece in every woman’s wardrobe. What I love about jumpsuits is that they are versatile, always put together, can fit in any social calendar and there is nothing like a jumpsuit to fashion up your 9 to 6 formal routine.

If you are hesitant of buying a jumpsuit, here are some tips to help you choose a suitable one:

  1. Buy the right size. Too loose or too tight jumpsuit will give you undesired style
  2. Don’t be afraid of prints. Go for medium or small size prints with dark background to help you hide some kilograms
  3. You can also go for black. Black jumpsuits look amazing on everyone. They will make you look slimmer and taller
  4. Fewer accessories give more glows. Jumpsuits (especially printed ones) are statement pieces, so don’t over accessorise them.

I chose this two-tone spotted jumpsuit by (Morgan De Toi). I like it because it gives the illusion of a top and trousers. The small size white dots on a black background hide up some Kgs 🙂

I decided to colour it up with orange belt and bag by (Morgan De Toi)
